What are the brief specifics of your educational/career background?

Sam received his Bachelors from Concordia University-Irvine, CA and earned his Master’s Degree in Educational Counseling-Higher Education at University of Redlands-Redlands, CA. He began his career in Higher Education working at the Transfer Center at Santa Ana College in California and went on to work at University of Redlands as Counselor, Advisor and the Campus Director at two regional locations in Southern California. He has over 10 years of experience in the Higher Education field focused on admissions/recruiting and student services.

What are the key aspects of your role at Northeastern? What do you enjoy most/find most interesting about what you do?

He comes to Northeastern as a Senior Recruiter with a unique ability to connect with working professionals and help them advance their education. His focus has been on helping underrepresented students find educational success, which he brings to Northeastern to drive diversity in the Align Computer Science program.

What’s the most compelling thing to you about the research/work that goes on at the College?

His vision emphasizes a strong team culture, linking professionals to find success, collaborating with both the public and private sector, training future workforce and providing access to higher education. “I’m all about linking and connecting people to find their answers to succeed professionally.”

Where did you grow up/spend the most defining years of your child/young adulthood?

He was born and raised in Southern California, Orange County and is a proud Cambodian American. He speaks Khmer fluently and always looks forward to assisting the underrepresented student population.

What led you to work in your field and/or study at your college? Any reason in particular why you opted for those particular schools/careers (family history, a program you were excited about, a city you were dying to live in)?

Bridging the gap in college has been the forefront of Sam’s agenda in Higher Education. Northeastern University is known as a top-tiered research institution. Its global leadership and rankings made him move to the vibrant city of Seattle, Washington to be closer to the tech-world and employ his expertise working at a regional campus.
