BIOGRAPHY

Giorgio Severi is a PhD student at Northeastern University’s College of Computer and Information Science, advised by Professor Alina Oprea. He has an MSc in Computer Science and a BSc in Computer Science from Sapienza University of Rome in Rome, Italy. His research interests lie at the intersection of computer security and machine learning; he is focused on studying the security of learning algorithms and applying machine learning techniques to security problems.

What are the specifics of your graduate education (thus far)?

I have obtained a Master’s degree in Computer Science from Sapienza University of Rome, Italy. I will start as a PhD student in the fall of 2018.

What are your research interests?

My research interest is in the field of computer security, in the application of machine learning techniques to security problems, and in the study of the security of learning algorithms.

What’s one problem you’d like to solve with your research/work?

I would like to contribute to making machine learning algorithms usable in safety critical scenarios.

What aspect of what you do is most interesting?

I find fascinating that the continuous struggle between adversaries forces the field of security to evolve at a tremendous pace.

What are your research or career goals, going forward?

I would like to continue working in a top tier research lab, either in academia or in the industry.
