Biography

Hridam Basu is a PhD student studying cryptography at Northeastern University’s College of Computer and Information Science under the supervision of Professor Daniel Wichs. Hridam holds a Bachelor of Engineering from Jadavpur University, India, and currently researches cryptography.

What are the specifics of your graduate education (thus far)?

I am a PhD student at Northeastern, having started in the fall of 2015. Prior to Northeastern, I earned my Bachelor of Engineering in Information Technology from Jadavpur University, Kolkata, India.

What are your research interests?

My research interests are in cryptography. My current academic and research path is what I had in mind because I have always enjoyed solving mathematical problems.

What’s one problem you’d like to solve with your research/work?

I would like to strengthen cryptographic schemes where the gap between theory and practice is not too big.

What aspect of what you do is most interesting?

I like to reason about and provide proof for things which may seem obvious but are not obvious.

What are your research or career goals, going forward?

As of now, I would like to be a researcher in a university or a research lab after I complete my degree.

Where did you grow up or spend your most defining years?

I grew up in the city of Chinsurah in the state of West Bengal in India. Later, I moved to the beautiful city of Kolkata, which is also known as City of Joy, and I loved the years that I spent there.

Where did you study for your undergraduate degree?

I chose Jadavpur University because it is one of the premier engineering institutes of India.
